The Netherlands has some great talent! May Groos is the winner of the Elite Model Look 2009. I had the honour to be a member of the jury again. Young talent marked the evening. Alongside the model contestants, there were performances of young talent in music, dance and song. Click on this link to see a video of the night.

Wendy was awarded with the ‘Style award’ during the annual fashion gala: The Dutch Model Awards.

Saturday dec.13th 2008 the night was dedicated to Women and the campaign ‘strong women’

Joytsna Maskay came to Holland from Nepal to tell her story to the public.

Various national and international experts, writers and supporters talked about their vision on the situation on girls and women in countries at war, or in post-conflict countries.

Journalist Ebru Umar interviewed Wendy Dubbeld on her experiences in Nepal and Joytsna Maskay on the situation at the moment.

In countries at war the chances to be a victim of rape as an instrument of war, are a lot higher than usual. Joytsna fights for the rights and protection these women and Wendy and Joytsna shared their story and goals with the listening public and press.

Last January, ICCO launched the campaign ‘Stronger Women’, which you were able to follow via my website.

By buying the charm, which is a symbol of the campaign, an amount of 25,000 euro has already been collected.

The charm is made by women in Nepal. The money will go to support projects for women.

After an intense journey I am back from Nepal.

There were too many impressions to be able to elaborate on them all in this small window, but it is difficult to comprehend that in the same world in which I live, full of luxury, glamour and comfort, there is so much sadness, inequality and misery.

“We all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon.”

In January Wendy and ICCO shall be travelling to Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world, which is trying to get back on its feet after a bloody civil war between the government and the Maoist. Violence has become part of their society and especially women are very vulnerable.

Many women are victim of domestic violence or end up working as prostitutes at a very young age.

With the campaign ICCO wants to give attention to the life conditions of women in (Post) conflict areas like Nepal, to support their position by giving them international support.

Strong brave women who fight for a good health system, security, education and against discrimination and sexual abuse.
Because more and more women stand up for their rights, traditions are broken with aggression as a result. ICCO wants to support the courageous and brave women and protect them.
